As of January 1, 2020, it is now required of a notary applicant to obtain an insurance bond. This process will be further explained on the Secretary of State’s website.
The insurance bond that you obtain for your notary application will often have a place for you to sign as “principal” and another section sometimes referred to as “Oath of Office” that will require you to sign in front of a notary. This MUST be completed BEFORE your appointment. The original documentation is required to be submitted when taking the oath at the Clerk’s office, however, it will be returned to you at the end of the process.
